Our Story

Before there was Rainbow Bakes, there was a rainbow — and a little jar of happiness that started it all.

Rainbow Bakes – Our Story
Rainbow Bakes

A little colour. A lot of heart.

01 / A spark of idea

It all begin with a Rainbow.

The idea of a Rainbow has meant something special to me for a long time. After experiencing the loss of a pregnancy, I came to understand why a child born after loss is often called a rainbow baby—a little bit of light after a very difficult storm.

In 2017, I wanted to celebrate two incredibly meaningful things in my life: my Rainbow child and my golden birthday. I remember wanting a rainbow cake to mark those moments. Something colourful, joyful and perhaps a little symbolic of everything that had brought me to that point.

But I couldn’t find the Rainbow cake I had imagined.

It sounds like such a small thing now, but that little thought stayed with me.

What if I made it myself?

02 / The first little jar

A little happiness,
delivered.

Life, of course, had other plans before that thought could become anything more.

Then came lockdown.

Like so many people, I watched the world become quieter and heavier. People were separated from their families, businesses were struggling, celebrations were being cancelled and there was so much uncertainty around us. Behind closed doors, many people were simply trying to get through one day at a time.

I kept thinking about that rainbow.

I wanted to make something that didn’t have to be a grand gesture. Something small that could arrive at someone’s doorstep and simply say:

“Here. Have a little bit of happiness today.”

And that’s where Rainbow Bakes began.

Our very first product was a little Rainbow Cheesecake Jar.

It wasn’t a huge cake. It wasn’t fancy. It was just a colourful little jar of cheesecake—but it carried something much bigger for me.

It carried joy.

It carried hope.

It carried the belief that even when life feels uncertain, we can still create little moments of goodness for one another.

03 / Our purpose

More than baking.

And somewhere along the way, Rainbow Bakes became about more than baking.

I have always believed that people deserve opportunities—not because they fit neatly into what society considers “normal”, but simply because they are people with abilities, dreams, talents and something valuable to contribute.

That became an important part of what I wanted Rainbow Bakes to be.

I wanted the bakery to create opportunities for people with disabilities and others who are often left on the sidelines—to learn, to work, to participate, to build confidence and, hopefully, to discover that there is a place for them too.

So while we make cakes and cheesecakes, what we’re really trying to create is something a little bigger:

A place where people can belong, contribute and grow.

04 / Still the same heart

A growing bakery.
The same little rainbow.

Today, Rainbow Bakes has grown far beyond that first little cheesecake jar.

We’ve made birthday cakes, celebration cakes, cheesecakes, brownies and desserts. We’ve baked for families, friends, cafés, businesses and people sending a little sweetness to someone they love.

We’ve had messy days, long days, experimental days, “let’s see if this works” days—and plenty of days where the kitchen looked like a small storm had passed through it. 😊

But the reason behind it has never really changed.

I still think about that rainbow.

About how something beautiful can come after something painful.

About how happiness doesn’t have to be enormous to matter.

About how one little dessert can make someone’s day feel just a tiny bit lighter.

And about how businesses can be about more than making money—they can also create opportunities, dignity, connection and hope.

05 / our Kind of Family

You became our
#
RBFamBam.

That is what Rainbow Bakes means to me.

It is a little piece of a very personal story that somehow became a shared one.

And somewhere along the way, the people who ordered from us, supported us, recommended us, came back for another cheesecake, sent us photographs and cheered us on became more than customers.

You became our #RBFamBam.

So, whether you've been with us since the very first cheesecake jar or you've just discovered us today, thank you.

Thank you for letting us be part of your birthdays, your celebrations, your surprises, your coffee breaks, your “I deserve cake” moments and all the little occasions in between.
